Product Description
The GPS system consists of a network of satellites and individual receivers that receive signals emitted by satellites. The position (latitude, longitude, altitude) is calculated by knowing the position of at least four satellites that emit the GPS signal at different times. Normally, three satellites are sufficient to determine the three coordinates (the position in space), and the fourth satellite is used to minimize errors.
The GY-NEO6MV2 GPS module is easy to use, communicates via serial transmission, and is powered by 5V. It can be used with a baud rate of 4800, 9600, or 115200.
Technical Specifications
Power supply voltage: DC 5V;
Model: GY-GPS6MV2;
Antenna: made of ceramic;
EEPROM for saving information when power is interrupted;
Backup battery;
Antenna size: 25 x 25 mm;
Module size: 26 x 36 mm;
Mounting hole diameter: 3 mm;
ATTENTION: The GPS module needs a direct path to the sky for connection (it does not use other technologies such as AGPS/GPS-A).
Also, for the first connection, it is necessary to download more information about the satellites, requiring an additional time of up to 15-20 minutes until the GPS coordinates are received.
Datasheet available in the downloads section.
Connection Example
UNO ---------- GPS Module
GND ---------- GND
5V ---------- VCC
D10 ---------- RX
D11 ---------- TX
1. Download the TinyGPSPlus library from the following LINK.
2. Load the library into Arduino IDE: Sketch -> Include Library -> Add .ZIP Library...
3. Open the "ExempluConectareGPS.ino" file in Arduino IDE from the DOWNLOADS section.
4. Connect the USB cable to the Arduino after you have connected the GPS module (the 4 wires).
5. Make sure the correct port and device you are using (UNO or MEGA in this example) are selected.
6. Upload the code and open the Serial Monitor where you set the baud rate to 115200. If everything works correctly, you will be able to see updated location and date information every second.
